Built behind a shop counter in Nepal.
SAHARA means support. We build the software we wished our own family business already had.
The shop
Our founder, Saroj Rijal, grew up behind the counter of his family’s clothing business in Narayangarh, wholesale and retail since 1991. He keeps its accounts. In 2023 the family opened a garment factory in Gaidakot; in 2025 it shipped its first export order, and he helped prepare the paperwork.
The problem
From the accountant’s chair, one thing stood out: many small businesses depend on one trusted person to keep the books. When that person is away, the business is blind. And the software available did not fit how Nepali shops actually work, with Miti dates, VAT and post-dated cheques.
The idea
Software that any staff member can use to make an entry, that the owner can verify at once, and that flows into the reports automatically. Fast enough to keep up with a busy counter. Honest enough to trust with the books.
A first lesson came from home: when his brother built software for the family’s factory, other manufacturers came asking for it. Solve a real problem properly, and the people who have it come asking.
The team
SAHARA Labs was started by five people: Saroj, his brother, and three friends. Saroj holds a BBS in accounting from Tribhuvan University (2025). We are a small team, building with care, in Nepal.
Where we are today
We tell you plainly where every product stands. SAHARA Core, our accounting and inventory software, is in testing before its first release. Our other products are listed with their honest status on Products.
Six principles
- 01
Software should bend to how people actually work.
Miti dates, VAT, post-dated cheques: the way Nepali shops really keep books comes first.
- 02
The mouse is optional. Speed is not.
People who keep books all day deserve software that keeps up with their hands.
- 03
An ERP is the business’s record, not a set of dashboards.
Every screen is the books. Every total can be traced to the voucher behind it.
- 04
A green test is not proof.
A check only counts once we have seen it fail. Accounting is trust.
- 05
Built in Nepal doesn’t mean small or cheap.
World-class software can be made here, for here, and for anywhere.
- 06
Fix unclear systems before blaming people.
When a mistake happens, we look first at what made it easy to make.
